Learning Support

Our aim

We run dedicated sessions targeted at facilitating and signposting Young people into meaningful engagement.

Activities

Work it Out is a fitness and employment programme tailored at using physical fitness to increase the confidence of young people whilst also supporting them in seeking employment by way of support with job searches, CV and application writing and interviews.

We have also collaborated with Career Connect to deliver a weekly Careers drop in service offering first-hand information on local jobs and apprenticeships.

Drop In

Our aim

Our Drop-in afternoons provide a friendly, informal and relaxed space where young people feel safe and supported. If you need help with anything, from relationships to careers and lots in between, we’ll do our best to get you where you want to be. If we can’t do it, you can bet we’ll know someone who can.

Activities

We have a music studio, we’ve run screen printing courses and one-off workshops, there’s impromptu dance classes, cookery, one-to-one advice, internet access and ping-pong – or you can just come and play pool, read and chat.

Healthy Living

Our aim

We want to establish and support good habits in young people to help them lead a happy, healthy and prosperous life. Our healthy living programme encourages good eating habits and a common-sense approach to nutrition as well as exercise, socialising, teamwork and empathy.

Activities

We incorporate this through various projects throughout the year. Check our blog and social media for our current projects.

Sport

Our aim

The value of sport extends far beyond the pitch. It can have social and cultural impact, reducing youth offending and creating more cohesive, tolerant and inclusive communities that value diversity. We have seen how sports can increase self-confidence, reduce antisocial behaviour and set up healthy, active habits for life. We aim to open up sessions to all local communities and break down some of the barriers that persist between people of different backgrounds.

Activities

We have basketball, dance and self-defence sessions as well as football -— and if there’s something else you want to do, we will try to set it up for you.

Big Sister

Our aim

At Big Sister we have our own private space that feels safe and lets us be ourselves without having to worry about what the boys think. There are girls from lots of different religions, cultures and backgrounds here, and if it wasn’t for Big Sister most of us would never have met. This is a place where we develop new skills, learn about ourselves and each other, and build our confidence and self‑belief.

Activities

We have workshops every week, on all kinds of subjects from dance and drama to healthy relationships and staying safe. We’ve also learned baking, arts and crafts, and fashion design — if we want to try something new, we ask the staff at Hideaway and they help us to arrange it. And sometimes we just hang out, talk about our concerns and our plans, and catch up on all our news.
